The University of Exeter’s teaching excellence across a wide range of subjects has been acclaimed in the latest national league table rankings.

Across the University, nine subjects have been ranked within the top 10 of the Guardian University Guide 2018, which was published yesterday (May 16). Overall, 21 subjects feature in the top 20.

The top 10 Humanities disciplines include Theology and Religion (4th), Drama (6th) and Classics (8th).

Professor Tim Quine, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education), said: “The University’s performance in the latest Guardian League Table confirms our commitment to high-quality education, world-leading research, and outstanding student support.

"Our strong performance across our subjects is not only a testament to the hard-work, enthusiasm and dedication by all of our academic staff and students across the University, but also cements our reputation as a rewarding environment in which students can truly flourish.

Professor Andrew Thorpe, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the College of Humanities, said “The results of the latest Guardian League Table show the continuing excellence of the Humanities at Exeter. They reflect the high quality of the student experience here, which is based on the recruitment of outstanding students, the excellence and hard work of our academic and professional support staff, and the University’s strong commitment to our subjects. These all combine to make the Exeter Humanities experience what it is.”

The Guardian metrics take into account measures including student satisfaction levels with teaching, the course and feedback, staff-student ratio and tariff. It includes a ‘value added’ score, which compares degree results with entry qualifications.

The latest league table also ranks Exeter 13th out of 121 UK Higher Education institutions, and 7th in the Russell Group of leading research intensive universities. Full details are available on the Guardian League table website.
