Anna Varadi will be attending the Undergraduate Awards later this month.

Humanities student receives High Commendation accolade from the international Undergraduate Awards

Selected to receive a High Commendation for her 3rd year paper entitled: "The Acquirement of Knowledge: Prometheus as a Catalyst for Identity Formation in German 'Sturm und Drang' and English Romantic Literature", Anna has been invited to attend the summit which celebrates the writing talent of Undergraduates.

The four-day Global Summit will recognise winning and highly commended applicants for their outstanding achievements across a range of academic disciplines, giving students the opportunity to present their research and attend insightful training sessions and workshops.

Since their inception in 2009, the Undergraduate Awards have brought together talented students from internationally renowned Universities to learn from one another’s research.

Anna’s paper was selected from 5,117 submissions from 39 countries around the world. Her essay was written as an assignment for her Level 3 ‘Romanticism’ module.

In anticipation of the event, Anna said: “I am looking forward to meeting like-minded students who are passionate about academia, and interacting with guest-speakers. I think it is really important for undergraduate research to be recognized on this kind of international level as motivation for young people to get engaged with and enthusiastic about the world of academia.”

Dr Emily Bernhard Jackson, Anna’s seminar leader for the module said of her achievement: "Anna was one of my very best students - and not just of last year, but of my three years at Exeter. She really thought about and wrestled with the texts we read, and I'm not one bit surprised that she produced a nationally admired essay. In fact, I would expect nothing less!"

Anna has shown a keen interest in research throughout her undergraduate studies, having attended the British Conference of Undergraduate Research in 2014 and 2015 respectively. One of Anna’s essays have been published in the University of Exeter’s student academic journal The Undergraduate Exeter. Earlier this summer she graduated with a BA in English with proficiency in Japanese. Anna is currently studying for her MA in English Literary Studies, following a Film Studies pathway.

Last year, Flexible Combined Honours student Cherrie Kwok attended the Undergraduate Awards to receive her High Commendation for her essay, “The Knowledge of Good and Evil: The Relationship Between Genesis and J.D. Salinger’s Catcher in the Rye”.
