Visit by Professor Wang Jihui widens collaboration between Exeter and Peking University.

The College of Humanities was delighted to welcome a second visit from Peking University (PKU)’s Professor Wang Jihui, Director of PKU’s Masters in Translation and Interpreting. The visit, which took place between June 9-13, was hosted by Dr. Richard Mansell and happened just ahead of a College of Humanities delegation of academics from Modern Languages and English departments visiting PKU and Fudan from 18 June.

Professor Wang has recently been appointed as an Honorary Professor to the College. The two institutions signed a Progression Agreement in November 2013 allowing MTI students to join the MA Translation programme. During this visit relationships were furthered with key contacts including College Dean, Professor Nick Kaye and Modern Languages colleagues, and preliminary discussions held around widening collaboration between Exeter and PKU in Translation Studies.

Later in June a delegation of 12 Exeter academics will meet with colleagues from PKU’s School of Foreign Languages to facilitate future joint research activity.

In July the College of Humanities will also host representatives of PKU’s Department of History, including Vice-Dean of the Graduate School, Professor Gao Dai, for the second annual History Colloquium between the two institutions.

Peking University is ranked 5th in the QS Asian University Rankings 2013, 23rd in the world for Arts and Humanities subjects and 46th in the QS World University Rankings 2013. It is also ranked 45th in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2013-2014.
