University of Exeter AHRC DTP Open Event

On 13 February 2014, the University of Exeter will be hosting an Open Event to provide those interested in applying for AHRC DTP funding with an opportunity to learn more about studying for a PhD with Exeter.

This entirely optional event is intended to offer an opportunity to people who were unable to attend the Consortium Open Day on 22 January 2014, or who, after attending the Open Day, wanted to take a closer look at Exeter specifically. The Open Event will offer a further opportunity to hear, and ask questions about, the AHRC South, West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership. It will also offer further information on studying for a research degree at the University of Exeter, and offer specialist advice on identifying a supervisor, and your research proposal.

The South, West and Wales Consortium will offer postgraduate studentships and training across the full range of the AHRC’s disciplines, which covers Archaeology, Celtic Studies, Classics, Creative Writing, Drama, English, Film, History, Law, Modern Languages, Philosophy and Theology and Religious Studies. There will be a strong emphasis on collaboration between the members of the consortium and 19 partner organisations including English Heritage, the National Trust, the BBC, Cadw and the Welsh National Opera. The funding, which equates to 200 new studentships, will allow for innovative postgraduate support, including the development of broader skills such as partnership working and language skills, and experience in working outside academia through industry and international placements.

James Clark, Professor of History at Exeter and Consortium Chair said: “This is a very exciting prospect for any student in arts and humanities. Our DTP will offer a unique blend of academic expertise and the chance to experience work in the creative and cultural industries that are so central to the UK economy.”

In attendance at this session will be the Chair of the AHRC South, West and Wales DTP, Professor James Clark, the College of Humanities Associate Dean for Research, Professor Andrew Thorpe, and Exeter’s subject Directors of Postgraduate Research.
