Professor Mark Jackson

A Wellcome position for Professor Mark Jackson

Professor Mark Jackson has been appointed as Senior Academic Adviser in the Medical Humanities to the Wellcome Trust.

Professor Jackson has a long and fruitful relationship with The Wellcome Trust.

The Wellcome Trust is currently in the process of recruiting a new Head of Medical Humanities. Whilst this process is taking place, Professor Jackson has been appointed Senior Academic Adviser in the Medical Humanities to help develop and support the Trust's strategic directions in Medical Humanities and to enhance the impact of their portfolio.

Explaining his relationship with the Wellcome Trust, Professor Jackson said “It was because someone at the Wellcome Trust told me there was an opportunity at Exeter that I came here in the first place, back in 1998. The University was keen to invest in medical history and Exeter seemed like a fantastic place to develop new ideas. More recently, of course, the intellectual landscape has shifted in exciting ways. The Wellcome Trust has expanded its funding remit to include a wider range of medical humanities subjects and the scope of our work here has shifted as part of the Medical Humanities strand of the Humanities and Social Science (HASS) research strategy. I am delighted that this Senior Academic Adviser post provides me with a wonderful opportunity to repay the Wellcome Trust for their support over the years.”
