The studentships are linked to research on Drama/Performance Medieval Studies and Global History

Exeter and Bristol Collaborative PhD Studentships Announced

The College of Humanities at the University of Exeter and the Graduate School of Arts and Humanities at the University of Bristol have recently announced three new scholarships for a joint PhD programme starting in October 2013.

The institutions are offering three new exciting collaborative funding opportunities, for exceptional researchers across a range of arts and humanities subjects.

The studentships will be awarded to applicants who can demonstrate how an outstanding research proposal would link to one of the following research areas: Drama/Performance, Medieval Studies and Global History, in which both Exeter and Bristol have recognised common and complementary fields of research expertise.

This new partnership will fund up to three studentships, with successful applicants benefiting from access to the rich postgraduate research environments of both institutions. They will offer a fully funded standard doctoral studentship which includes full tuition fee cover and an annual maintenance stipend for a maximum of three years (six years part-time), subject to satisfactory progress. The students will be jointly supervised by academics at both institutions.

Professor James Clark, Graduate Dean of Arts at Bristol said, "We are very excited by this initiative, which builds on existing collaborations between Humanities researchers at Bristol and Exeter and highlights distinctive strengths, specialist resources and expertise, for which both universities are recognised across the UK sector."

Both institutions have an excellent track record of recruiting high-quality PhD students and have already received a high-level of interest in these studentships.

Professor Andrew Thorpe, The University of Exeter’s Associate Dean of Research and Knowledge Transfer for the College of Humanities comments, "Increasingly, the UK university sector is moving towards research concentration in a small number of elite universities, and collaboration between the very best institutions, like Exeter and Bristol. These joint studentships reflect that developing reality and offer a terrific opportunity for the kind of ambitious students who aspire to be among the research leaders of the next generation."

Details on how to apply for the scholarships are available on the College of Humanities funding webpages and further details of the award on the University's funding award page.
