Guild Elections 2011

The recent Student Guild elections have produced a significant number of winners from the College of Humanities. Of the five positions available, four are from the College, reflecting a high degree of student engagement.

James Eales is currently studying for a Masters in History and has been voted in as the next VP Academic Affairs. When asked what he could bring to the role, he said: ‘Having been an undergraduate and postgraduate at Exeter, I have a good understanding of the issues that students encounter. This position provides the opportunity to try and solve these concerns, as well as being an integral part of the Guild management team and working closely with staff at a world-renowned university. This position offers a terrific opportunity to enhance my skills and experience, while making a real difference to thousands of students.

Speaking about the changes he would like to implement during his year in office, he said: ‘I hope to make changes that will place the student at the heart of learning; offering more choice, enhanced contact and strong academic support. With the new fees structure coming into place in September 2012, I hope to ensure that the University and Guild work together to ensure that students get the best results from any increase in revenue.’

The College of Humanities winners are:

  • Nick Davis, President
  • Emma Payne, Welfare and Community
  • James Eales, Academic Affairs
  • James Fox, Participation and Campuses.
