Queer Theologies and Theories (THE2028)

30 credits

In this module you will be introduced to queer theologies in the Christian tradition, their genealogy in queer critical theory and lesbian and gay theologies, and their implications for politically-engaged contemporary accounts of doctrine, faith and practice. You will examine and analyse topics which may include a selection from queer Christologies; queer theology, ethnicity and race; constructive queer theologies; queer Christian practice; queer biblical interpretation; and tensions between queer theologies and other critical approaches. You will typically engage with a range of resources which may include visual art, film, and written texts. Previous study of Christian theologies will be useful but not essential.
