High calibre line up announced for Cornwall’s Assembly on Climate Change

Luke Pollard, MP and Shadow Secretary for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs will join a panel of environmental policymakers and organisations, including Lizzy Carlyle, Head of Environmental Practices at the National Trust; Cllr Martin Alvey, Portfolio Holder for Climate and Environment at Cornwall Council, Emmie Kell, CEO at Cornwall Museums Partnership and Fiona Wotton, CEO at Creative Kernow.

The free online event, part of the University’s Green Futures series, will inform action on climate change and takes place on Wednesday 1 December from 12.30 -14.30. The aim is to explore what citizens in Cornwall feel is important, and the policy solutions that need to be implemented at a local and national level.

Leading University of Exeter academics from the Penryn Campus will give participants insight into specific areas that are key to the climate emergency.

Professor Clare Saunders will present the case for sustainable clothing; Professor Juliet Osborne will explore how we can protect our pollinators; Professor Steffen Boehm will show how we can better re-use our resources in a circular economy; Dr Ian Ashton will discuss marine renewables; and Professor Caitlin DeSilvey will examine the relationship between heritage and climate change.

Participants will then work in groups to consider the priorities and solutions that we might collectively adopt, in order to tackle climate change.

In the final part of this interactive and exciting event, participants will get to present their conclusions to the panel.
