Humanities Success at the Teaching Awards 2016

Students, academics and staff from the University of Exeter and the Students' Guild gathered on 28 April to celebrate the 2016 Teaching Awards. The College of Humanities achieved fantastic success, with five winners and five runners-up, more than any other College in the University, including Best Subject for English.

The Students’ Guild Teaching Awards were originally introduced in 2010. The awards ceremony formally recognises outstanding commitment shown by academic and support staff at the University. Now in their seventh year, the Teaching Awards were run collaboratively by the University of Exeter Students’ Guild and the Falmouth and Exeter Students’ Union (FXU). The Awards were celebrated with the excellent news that 2160 nominations were submitted this year,  with the College receiving 684 nominations. Humanities staff were shortlisted for 11 out of 12 awards and they come from 8 disciplines in the College.

Professor Sarah Hamilton, Associate Dean for Education and research said of the achievement: ‘It is wonderful to see the work of these Humanities colleagues being recognised by their students in this way. We should also celebrate the fact that so many Humanities students participated in the Guild’s survey, nominating not just those who won on the night but colleagues from across the whole College; it is a real testament to the community of learning which exists within the College amongst staff and their students’.
