Humanities subjects rise in latest influential rankings table

Drama and Film Studies (Drama, Dance, and Cinematics) have climbed to 3rd in the UK, whilst History, Theology and Religion are now in the top 5. The majority of the remaining disciplines have improved their rankings compared to last year.

Overall the University of Exeter had 29 subjects in the top 10 in the UK and showed year on year improvements in multiple subject areas. The University of Exeter is the leading University in the South West, says the 2018 Complete University Guide published this week. 

The latest league table also ranks Exeter 14th overall out of 129 UK higher education institutions, comparative to last year’s position, and 8th in the Russell Group of leading research intensive universities. Full rankings for all subjects can be viewed on the Complete University Guide website.

Art History and Visual Culture – 7th  
Classics and Ancient History – 6th
Drama – 3rd (Drama, Dance and Cinematics category)
English – 6th
Film Studies – 3rd (Drama, Dance and Cinematics category)
French – 13th
German – 15th
History – 4th
Iberian – 16th
Italian – 10th
Russian – 9th
Theology and Religion – 4th

Professor Andrew Thorpe, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean of the College of Humanities, said: "It's really good to see Exeter Humanities subjects once again performing very strongly in the CUG rankings.
