The University of Exeter has been shortlisted for five Times Higher Education awards across a range of categories in arts and science, a greater number than any other university this year.

The University has been nominated for projects as wide-ranging as a mindfulness programme used in high security Kenyan jails to reduce stress and anger by as much as 86%, and the first paper to ever be published on aphantasia, a condition which prevents people from being able to visualise objects in their mind’s eye.

Across the THE Awards’ nineteen categories, the University of Exeter has been nominated for awards in the following categories:

-          Research Project of the Year: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences

-          Research Project of the Year: STEM

-          Outstanding Contribution to Leadership Development

-          Excellence and Innovation in the Arts

-          Times Higher Education DataPoints Merit Award

Professor Sir Steve Smith, Vice Chancellor of the University of Exeter, said: “I’m thrilled to see Exeter nominated for these prestigious awards across a range of activities and research areas. This really highlights the outstanding calibre of staff across our world-leading University. My sincere congratulations to all involved.”

Times Higher Education editor John Gill said “Once again, these awards have attracted hundreds of entries from the length and breadth of the nation, and from institutions of every hue. All those shortlisted can be immensely proud to have made it through this first phase, and we at Times Higher Education look forward to honouring the winners for their talent, creativity and commitment at a time for the academy when these qualities are increasingly essential.

The awards will be presented at a gala at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, on the 30th November.
