Prof. Richard Overy is the General Editor of the 9th Edition of the Times Complete History of the World.

Ninth edition of Times Complete History of the World edited by Prof. Richard Overy

This publication by Harper Collins is the second edition to involve Exeter historians in updating and checking the atlas. The last edition was published in 2010. As well as History Professor Richard Overy taking on the role of General Editor, five out of the seven consultants employed come from the Exeter and Cornwall campuses: Stacey Hynd, Tehyun Ma, Claire McCallum, Catriona Pennell and Matthias Reiss.

Catriona Pennell says, "It has been a real pleasure to be involved in the ninth edition of the Times Atlas. It's an opportunity to bring existing spreads up-to-date and to add new spreads - such as the one on the Arab Spring - that reflect significant developments in world history since the eighth edition. The combination of graphics, text, timelines and quotes makes it a fantastic and intelligible source for all readers."

The new edition highlights recent developments in the Middle East and North Africa, as well as new spreads on modern China and Russia. The atlas has so far sold more than two million copies and has been widely translated. 'It has been a pleasure working on the new edition,' says Richard Overy, 'and a particular pleasure being able to work with so many colleagues here at Exeter in what is now one of the country's leading history departments.'

There launch event for the atlas takes place on 11 November at the University of Exeter.
