Overview

My interests lie in English landscape and religious history, in particular the transition from late medieval to early modern. My approach to both research and teaching is interdisciplinary, covering history, archaeology and architectural history. I have a special interest in urban monasteries; my book The Friaries of Medieval London will be published by Boydell in 2017. I was an archaeologist at the Museum of London and worked on a number of important research projects including the excavation of England's largest medieval cemetery at Spitalfields and a study of the historic Guildhall building.
