Frequently asked questions
Our certificated Evening Classes are open to University Students, Staff, Alumni (for a discount) and members of the public. In line with current University policy, we can only accept enrolments for those aged 18 or over in the academic year.
Most of our courses run for 20 weeks over two terms (October - March), except for BSL courses and introductory courses.
Each course takes place on one evening, Monday-Thursday, as follows:
Beginners, Beginners Fast-Track, Post-Beginners, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate and Advanced: 2-hour lesson per week, 6.30-8.30pm, for 20 weeks over 2 terms (40 hours total). Maximum 20 participants per class.
Introduction to Greek / Korean/ Latin / Ancient Greek etc: 2-hour lesson per week, 6.30-8.30pm, for 10 weeks in term one (20 hours total). Maximum 20 participants per class. A continuation course in Term 2 may be offered subject to viable numbers.
BSL Level 1: 2-hour lesson per week, 6.30-8.30pm, for 26 weeks over 3 terms (52 hours total, including 3 sessions for assessment). Maximum 15 participants per class. The course leads to the BSL Level 1 award from Signature.
BSL Level 2: 3-hour per week for 30 weeks over 3 terms (90 hours in total, including 3 sessions for assessment). Maximum 12 participants per class. The course leads to the BSL Level 2 award from Signature.

Please note that the full cost is payable in advance. For reasons of viability, it is not possible to enrol for Term 1 only. Should you decide to stop attending after one term no refund will be provided.

Once in the on-line store please go to the "Conferences and Events" page and choose the "Foreign Language Centre".
Alternatively, you can come to our Open Evening where you will have the opportunity to meet teaching staff and ask questions.
Enrolment is open from June and continues up to course commencement, but is done on a first come, first served basis. All courses are subject to viability.

A draft timetable is available on our website. We try not to change published days and times. However, if you book a place on a course and the day subsequently changes, you will have the option to request a full refund, prior to commencement of course.
If you choose to cancel your place prior to the commencement of the course, a standard administration fee of £25 will be retained. Once a course has started, please note that course fee refunds are not applicable.
