Research projects
We lead major research projects funded by organisations such as the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the European Research Council, and The Leverhulme Trust. These projects allow us create diverse networks, produce collaborative outputs and translate our research into social and cultural impact.
Impact and public engagement
Our research has wide-ranging impact beyond academia. We make a difference in the world through impact that changes perspectives on past and present, from work that draws attention to history to see the future differently to powerfully articulating some of the most pressing issues of today.
"Research in Languages, Cultures and Visual Studies (LCVS) is global, transdisciplinary, and transformational by nature.
Our research crosses time and space. Deep knowledge of our linguistic, cultural, and visual heritage drives major projects on the French of medieval England and on cultures of philosophy by women in the early modern world. App users can step into the past through HistoryCity apps developed with LCVS researchers.
We are also working on the most pressing issues of our time, from climate change to sensitive intercultural communication with displaced people traumatized by conflict to translation of powerful war poetry by Ukrainian soldiers on the front line.
Our impact takes root in local communities through public engagement and is internationally networked through multiple global partnerships, the two coming together through our partnership with Exeter UNESCO City of Literature and the UNESCO Creative Cities Network."
