Interim Widening Participation Coordinator
I joined the University of Exeter in September 2015 after graduating from the University of Kent with a degree in French. I thoroughly enjoy working with students from primary school to sixth form and am committed to ensuring that students have the best experience possible when taking part in our activities.

Dr Joseph Crawford has participated in Widening Participation work at the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, King's College London, and most recently Exeter. His primary research interest is in the history of Gothic fiction, and he has delivered sessions on how Gothic might be most usefully studied in schools to audiences of both teachers and students. He has taught on and organised both the Exeter Progression and Exeter Residential programmes for the Department of English and Film.
Lecturer (Hispanic Studies)
My name is Dr Maria Thomas and I am a Lecturer in Hispanic Studies in the Department of Modern Languages. I have been the joint Widening Participation Officer for Modern Languages (with Maria Scott) since September 2015. Some of the highlights of my Widening Participation experience so far have been delivering sessions on Spanish Language, History and Culture to A-Level students as part of the Exeter Progression programme for Modern Languages. I have also really enjoyed taking part in the ‘Discover Languages’ days and thinking of innovative ways to introduce secondary school students to the marvellous experience of studying languages in a university environment.
