BA Theology and Arabic/Arabic Studies/Islamic Studies

Studying Arabic or Islamic Studies will provide you with a thorough understanding of the culture and literature of the people of the Middle East alongside developing skills of theological inquiry and analysis.

We offer three programmes combining Theology with either Arabic, Arabic Studies or Islamic Studies. The four-year programme with Arabic allows you to spend the second year of your programme at one of our accredited Arabic language study centres. The programmes with Arabic Studies and Islamic Studies are three-year programmes without the year abroad.

All these programmes combine modules from the disciplines of Theology and Religion and Arabic and Islamic studies. You will gain a broad knowledge of the Middle East and its history and social identities and learn about the histories and developments of Islam and Christianity as world religions and civilisations.

You will be able to explore the inter-relationships between the study of the Middle East and the study of Christianity and to engage critical questions about social, philosophical, religious, cultural and political issues bearing on the world today. You can also learn Arabic, Biblical Hebrew and New Testament Greek and engage with literature from a range of cultural contexts.

No previous knowlege of Arabic, Hebrew or Greek is required for these Combined Honours degrees.
