Our research has explored questions such as the relationship between religious understanding and emotional experience, the relevance of place to belief and the nature of spiritual practice.
Philosophical reflection on aspects of human life
The connection with concrete issues of human living in the world that characterises much of our work in theology and ethics also characterises our work in the area of philosophy of religion, led by Mark Wynn.
Mark's recent books have dealt with religion in its material context, considering the relationship between religious understanding and emotional experience, and the relevance of ‘place’ for religious belief and practice. More broadly still, his work is concerned with the nature of spiritual practice, and the role of philosophical enquiry in illuminating and contributing towards such practice.
The College of Humanities also provides opportunities for collaboration with other philosophers, and a number of research students have worked on cross-disciplinary topics in philosophical ethics.
