Medieval and Reformation Theology (THE1060)

In this module you will explore the development of theology between the eleventh and seventeenth centuries in lectures and seminars. The first part of the module will focus on Medieval Theology, the second will look at the Reformation.  Taking a chronological approach, you will examine the development from social, religious and philosophical contexts.  In particular, you will discuss topics such as the Reformation, the Counter Reformation, and Nominalism.  You will look at the roles of key figures such as Luther in the German Reformation, and Calvin and the Swiss Reformation Erasmus and the impact of humanism. On analysis of texts, you will set them in their social, religious and philosophical contexts. On completion of this module, you will be able to outline the main factors, theological and non theological, involved in this development.
