Theology, Sexuality and Gender (THE1108)

15 credits

The module addresses the question how to think theologically about sexuality and gender. It addresses problems about the interpretation and use of the theological sources (especially the Bible). There are four themes: i) being theological about sex (desire, the framework of marriage and its alternatives); ii) being theological about gender (the apparent ‘maleness’ of God, one-sex and two-sex theories, ‘the battle of the sexes’, equality, power); iii) being theological about same-sex love and sexual minorities (the possibility of marriage, the inclusion of intersex and transgender people); iv) living the virtuous life (chastity reconfigured).
