Science and Culture

The British Academy has funded two interdisciplinary workshops at the University of Exeter. Organised by Dr Angelique Richardson, the events have focussed on essentialism in science and the humanities and addressed ways in which scientists and humanities scholars can work together on addressing questions of nature and nurture.

Roles of Essentialism workshop

The first, on the Roles of Essentialism, was co-hosted by Egenis and Exeter Interdisciplinary Institute and took place in May 2010. Read the workshop report on the Essentialisms blog.

Biology and Culture workshop

The second, a Biology and Culture workshop, attended by scientists and humanities scholars who work on science and literature, took place in September 2011.  The keynote speakers were sponsored by the International Office and the College of Humanities at Exeter.   Read the workshop report, and contribute to the ongoing discussion, on the Science and Culture blog.
