The University of Exeter has been named as the number one institution in the country to study Drama in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018.

Classics, English, History and Theology at the University of Exeter have been ranked in the top five courses in the country by the guide, which is one of the most prestigious and authoritative measures of student satisfaction and teaching quality. The rankings also measure graduate employment prospects.

Archaeology, Film and Modern Languages are ranked in the top ten.

Exeter was also recently named as one of the top 100 places in the world to study and research arts and humanities in the 2018 Times Higher Education Arts and humanities subject ranking.

Humanities subjects are taught at the University’s campuses in Exeter and Penryn in Cornwall. Students study almost 100 degree programmes and many study abroad in Europe and North America. Academics also have partnerships with leading institutions in China, Europe, India and the USA.

Humanities academics currently hold research grants worth over £14 million. The 2014 Research Excellence Framework rated 75 per cent of research in the college as world-leading or internationally excellent. Students studying humanities subjects participate in events involving internationally acclaimed authors, actors and directors, take part in archaeological digs in the UK and USA and can attend events involving writers, filmmakers and others from the creative industries

Drama has been run at Exeter as a degree course for the past 50 years. The department is one of the largest and best equipped in the UK. In recent years £3.7 million has been invested in providing industry-standard facilities for students.

Professor Andrew Thorpe, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Executive Dean for the College of Humanities, said: “We are delighted to be named once again as a leading institution for arts and humanities. This is tribute to the quality and hard work of both our staff, who are carrying-out world-leading research. We provide unique opportunities for students to live and work in different nations, experience different careers, take part in research and meet with leading figures in the arts world.”
