By hosting events such as this with world leading figures, in state–of-the-art facilities, the University of Exeter has once again proven why it has been named as one of the top ten institutions in the country to study film. Over 200 people attended the lecture at the new Digital Humanities Lab, as well as an extended Q&A session and networking opportunity hosted after, to give students an even greater opportunity to get to know Mark’s career in more detail.

Mark Kermode is one of the UK’s best known film journalists, working as a broadcaster across radio (BBC Radio 5 Live’s flagship weekly film review programme, with Simon Mayo) and TV (numerous documentaries for BBC and Channel Four, as well as BBC News’ weekly Film Review programme); as writer of popular film books and; as chief critic for The Observer; amongst many other roles.

He also has strong links to the University of Exeter, with his wife, Linda Ruth Williams recently joining the academic staff as a professor of Film in the English Department. Earlier this year Mark visited the Bill Douglas Cinema Museum located at Streatham Campus and described it as his “new favourite thing.” You can watch his vlog detailing his experience below or on the BBC website here.
