Dr Marjorie Gehrhardt

Associate Research Fellow in French


Marjorie Gehrhardt is a postodoctoral research fellow on the 1914FACES2014 project, an EU INTERREG-IV funded project of interregional cooperation. Her research focuses on the experience and representations of facially injured soldiers during and after the First World War in France, Germany and Great Britain.

Her background is in Modern Languages and Cultural History, which she studied as part of her PhD (University of Exeter, 2014) and Master's degrees (University of Exeter and Université de Strasbourg, 2010). Her recent publications include 'Gueules Cassées: The Men Behind the Masks' (Journal of War & Culture Studies, 2013), and articles in edited volumes on Gender, Agency and Violence: European Perspectives from Early Modern Times to the Present (Cambridge Scholars press, 2013) and Twentieth Century Wars in European Memory (Peter Lang, 2013). 

She taught within the Department of Modern Languages from 2009-2013 and is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
