Spanish History and Culture: Crisis and Change (MLS1027)

15 credits

This is a foundation module for the study of twentieth-century history, literature and film. You will gain an understanding of key moments in Spanish history from the Disaster of 1898 to the modern day, including

the Civil War, Francoism and the Transition. You will also study two well-known examples of Spanish cultural production (one short novel and one film) that respond to the historical contexts you have studied and reflect on personal, social or political crisis.

Dr Katharine Murphy specializes in twentieth-century Spanish literature and culture; Dr Maria Thomas in Spanish history and the Civil War.
