Ideologies and Identities in German Cinema (MLG2042)

15 credits

The module introduces students to some of the key ways in which German cinema from the Weimar era to the present has engaged with ideological debates and with questions of personal and/or political identity. We examine films which focus primarily on a critique of the economic system and national identity as well films foregrounding attempts at individual liberation from oppressive structures (viewed in the context of German history, politics, gender, class, and/or race).
