War and Conflict in French Literature (MLF1015)

15 credits

This module offers an analysis of key events in French history from the end of the nineteenth century to the present day. By approaching historical events through the lens of literature we are better able to evaluate a range of differing perspectives, and to analyse France’s role as both victim and oppressor. Selected texts examine France’s relationship especially with Germany and Algeria, as we study historical events from the Franco-Prussian war to the legacy of the Algerian war.
