Willkommen! German at Exeter has a strong record of excellence in research and teaching with 85% of our research classified as of international quality (RAE 2008).
We regularly perform well in national league tables and are 2nd for Teaching for German in the National Student Survey (2011).

Our degrees offer a high level of choice, so you can focus on German, or combine two or three languages or study languages alongside another subject.

Modern Languages offers a range of MA Programmes, and within German our MPhil/PhD research degrees involve an extensive investigation into German Studies.

Our research interests and expertise include Baroque court culture, eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth-century literature, and urban and museum studies.
