Chinese

Understanding China is of increasing strategic significance. But how much do you really know about this fascinating country? If you begin studying Chinese at Exeter, you will find that our supportive and experienced staff will carefully guide you through the linguistic and cultural challenges of a country with a long tradition and growing importance in the 21st century. Over one billion people throughout the world speak some form of Chinese as their first language. You will therefore be mastering a global language, as well as developing your own capacity to understand and analyse China through its culture, art, politics and history.

You will become proficient in a wide variety of communication skills, which will greatly enhance your employability skills. Most of your classes will be with our team of native Chinese speakers and you will also be able to find a native speaker as a language partner with whom you can practice the language.

We have close links with a number of prestigious universities in China where you will have the opportunity to spend an academic year of study. These include Fudan, Peking, Tsinghua, Shanghai Jiao Tong, and Tianjin universities.
