Freshers' Week in Liberal Arts

Congratulations on getting a place at the University of Exeter. This page gives you the information you need for Freshers’ Week and what you need to do before you get here. We look forward to welcoming you to the College in September.

Welcome to Liberal Arts at Exeter and congratulations on securing your place! I should like to offer you a very warm welcome to the Liberal Arts degree programme. My colleagues and I are delighted that you will be joining us this September. During Freshers’ Week, we’ll introduce you to your fellow students, your personal tutor, your module convenors, the director and the administrator of the programme, your peer mentor and to the various members of the College who will be teaching and advising you during your time here.

Before you get here you'll need to register with the University, activate your University IT account and select optional modules if they are available to you. You will need to have completed your module selections for both required modules and optional modules by Friday 15 September 2017 and you will not be able to access your entire timetable until your module choices are confirmed. If you have not done so in your UCAS application, you will need to inform the Liberal Arts team team of your preference for major, as soon as possible please and no later than Monday 4 September.

Freshers’ Week 2017: Monday 18 September – Sunday 24 September

All students are expected to be on campus by Monday 18 September at the latest.

If there is any reason why you may not be here by this date, please get in contact with the Humanities Education Office as soon as possible by emailing liberalarts@exeter.ac.uk.

During Freshers’ week you should attend the Academic induction events for Liberal Arts, and at least the principle welcome/information meeting for the discipline you will be taking as your major scheduled for Tuesday 19 September, please see the relevant discipline’s Freshers’ week information page for that schedule.

The purpose of Academic Induction is to introduce you to your academic programme, complete any necessary pre-registration tasks, familiarise yourself with your academic buildings, and meet fellow students and the academic staff for your subjects. These sessions form the core part of your Freshers' Week timetable and we expect all students to be present at these compulsory sessions. If you need any advice about issues or clashes within your Freshers' Week timetable please contact liberalarts@exeter.ac.uk

Joining instructions

Ahead of Freshers' week, and as soon as possible after confirmation of your offer, the Liberal Arts team need to know your preferences for major to be studied, this will assist with the module selection process. Please contact Liberal Arts team stating your preference for major no later than Monday 4 September.

Students are advised to attend subject meetings for those subject they are opting for as their major, these subject meetings are due to take place on Tuesday 19 September, please see the Freshers’ week page for the relevant discipline, or enquire with the Liberal Arts team

Choosing your modules using the Online Module Selection System

First you will need to register with the University and activate your University IT account. To find out how to do this use the links in the tabs below for the 'Before you arrive' section of the New Students’ website. Once you have activated your University IT account you will have access to iExeter, the student portal. You should find the Online Module Selection System by clicking on the 'Student Record' tab and then by following the instructions.

For some programmes where your first year of study includes either optional modules and/or the need to select between specific core modules, you must make your Year 1 module choice between Wednesday 30 August and Friday 15 September using the Online Module Selection System. After Friday 15 September module availability may be restricted within your discipline/s. Please contact us if, for any reason, you have not been able to make your module choices by this date.

Modules are available at a range of levels from Beginners to Advanced via the Foreign Language Centre in:
