DOWLING, Tom. Journal of a Midshipman 1941-1943.  315p., illus. Leeds: Propagator Press, 2010. ISBN: 1860298176.

He trained at Dartmouth and had an active war as a midshipman, serving on Queen Elizabeth, Beaufort and Uganda, mainly in the Mediterranean. This is his beautifully illustrated midshipman’s  journal, with later annotations and explanations. A second revised edition was published in 2011 (ISBN: 1908037180).
