Early Modern

The early modern group has particularly strength in English social history (Barry, French, Sangha, Toulalan, Whittle, Whyte), and also in the interface between history and literary studies (Barker, Cox-Jensen, Toulalan) and we are well integrated with the English department via the Centre for Early Modern Studies where McDowell, McRae and Schwyzer in particular have strong historical interests. There are also a number of specialist interests shared by members of the group: such as religious history (Barry, Sangha), gender history (Toulalan, Whittle), economic history (French, Fusaro, Overton, Whittle), agrarian and environmental history (French, Overton, Whittle, Whyte), medical history (Barry, Toulalan) and the history of occupational identities (Barry, French, Whittle).
