Regions in a global context

Diasporas and migrations have proved powerful forces in global history, effecting significant political and demographic change and transforming 'Identities and Beliefs'. In tracking these and other forms of mobility, our research draws attention to the persistent dynamics of large-scale regional configurations, and reanimates the histories of mountain zones, steppes and oceans. Tracing these mobilities reveals unfamiliar spatial configurations – new world regions – that have operated along a sliding scale between the local, or national, and the truly global. What role have these and other regional arenas played in prefiguring, facilitating, or resisting modern globalisation?
