MPhil/PhD History We offer supervision across a wide range of research interests at both our Streatham Campus in Exeter, and Cornwall Campus near Falmouth. We have research interests in British, European and world history, with expertise in economic and social history, local history, maritime history, religious and cultural history, medical history, and political history. Members of the department are committed to interdisciplinary approaches and have strong links with colleagues in Arab and Islamic Studies, Archaeology, Classics, English, Modern Languages, Philosophy, Politics, and Theology humanities-pgadmissions@exeter.ac.uk
MPhil/PhD Maritime Historical Studies The Centre for Maritime Historical Studies was the first of its kind in a British university and seeks to promote research into economic, social, political, naval and environmental aspects of the British maritime past from the earliest times to the present day, drawing also on European and international experience humanities-pgadmissions@exeter.ac.uk
MPhil/PhD Medical History The Centre for Medical History is funded by the Wellcome Trust and is dedicated to advancing methods and areas of research within the history of medicine and forging links with medical and health care professionals in the region. Staff can offer PhD supervision across a wide range of areas including English medical history 1500-1800; history of the environment and medicine in the modern period; history of occupational health and industrial diseases; history of psychiatry and stress; and history of gender and the family humanities-pgadmissions@exeter.ac.uk
MPhil/PhD Medieval Studies The Centre for Medieval Studies provides a lively focal point for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research. Staff expertise is especially strong in the areas of medieval music, French literature, Spanish literature, Italian literature, history, English, law, archaeology, and Arab and Islamic studies. The PhD in Medieval Studies is designed for students wishing to specialise either in the area of medieval music, or in inter- or multidisciplinary research combining one or more of the specialisms offered by members of the Centre. MPhil/PhD Cornish Studies Research students are supervised by academic staff within the Institute of Cornish Studies. The Institute is home to two high-profile research programmes: the Cornish Communities Programme, which encourages research on the issues of migration, community, family and identity at different geographical scales; and the Cornish Audio Visual Archive, an innovative programme for the study and documentation of the oral and visual culture of Cornwall humanities-pgadmissions@exeter.ac.uk
MPhil/PhD Western Esotericism Exeter is a leading world centre for the study of Western Esotericism. PhD students are supervised by members of the Centre for the Study of Esotericism which fosters advanced research into historical and comparative aspects of the esoteric traditions from the Hellenistic period in late antiquity through the Renaissance and early modern period to the present humanities-pgadmissions@exeter.ac.uk
