"Students at Exeter are likely to have permanent smiles on their faces: it has campuses in the cathedral city and also near Falmouth in Cornwall, as well as plenty of coastline, countryside and glorious weather."
The Guardian, 2009
Postgraduate student life
Postgraduate students are central to the life of our department and include recent graduates, mature students and many students from overseas. Most of our postgraduate students are based at our Streatham Campus in Exeter but we also have a growing number of students at our Cornwall Campus or based off-campus and studying by distance learning. Find out more about postgraduate student life at Streatham Campus, Exeter and in Cornwall.
Research activities
The Department of History and its research centres host numerous research seminars, workshops, conferences, and other events in which postgraduate participation is strongly encouraged. There is also a departmental research seminar series organised by postgraduates for postgraduates, and a departmental journal, Ex Historia, which is postgraduate-run. These activities, along with training seminars in research methods and approaches for PhD students, provide a range of forums in which postgraduate students can meet, present research, exchange ideas, develop professional skills, and socialise in a supportive and lively environment.
Ex Historia
Ex Historia is an online journal published by postgraduate history students. The journal publishes original, refereed articles and book reviews by postgraduate students on any historical topic, but especially topics reflecting the interests of the University of Exeter's history community.
Graduate School
As a postgraduate student in the Department of History, you will be part of the wider College of Humanities and will have plenty of opportunity to mix with students and staff from other disciplines and take part in events such as the School's annual postgraduate conference. The Graduate School team also provides a friendly point of contact for any queries you have about the application process, orientation or life within the School.
