Current Research in Medieval Studies (HISM184)

15 credits

Learning to communicate your research – its aims, objects, methods and discoveries - is an essential part of your development as a postgraduate researcher. This module will present researchers with different levels of experience discussing their current, developing and completed projects. You will critically appraise their approaches, the substance and the style of their presentation, the effectiveness with which they explain their work and its significance in the field to audiences with varying levels of expertise and different requirements from academic research. The module is founded on the fortnightly Centre for Medieval Studies research seminar; regular follow-up guided discussions will provide an opportunity to review each presentation in depth. The module will end with an opportunity to formulate a proposal for a Dissertation project and apply your knowledge and developing skills in the presentation of a short research paper of your own.
