Sex and the Services (HIH3282)

This module will look at gender roles in military organisations since the late Seventeenth century.  You will investigate the ways in which gender roles change, such as the changing characteristics of heroism; how gender identities are constructed – constructing masculinity in the military, as women as followers or women as combatants; and the way those images and identities have been used including advertising and imagery.  Teaching will be through lectures and seminars.
