Organised Street Protest in Modern British and American History: Sources (HIH3268)

30 credits

This module will focus on the sources available for the study of organised street protest in Great Britain, the United States and other countries, in particular the protest of the unemployed, civil rights and peace movements. It will look at a range of sources, including parliamentary debates, archival material, accounts from participants, newspaper articles, autobiographies, oral history, film and the internet. Students will be asked to focus on the reliability and value to the historian of these different types of source and to place them within the broader context in which they were produced.
