Understanding the Medieval and Early-Modern World (HIH1410)
This module is designed to introduce you to the history of Europe and its neighbours in the medieval and early modern periods, from the ‘Fall of Rome’ to the ‘General Crisis of the Seventeenth Century’ and the Enlightenment. Taking a thematic approach, it seeks to develop students’ understanding of politics, society, economy and religion across these years. Key themes include kingship and government, power and resistance, religion and the church, cultures of knowledge, the environment (both physical and economic) and encountering the other. This is an introductory module and no prior knowledge is required.
