History Foundation Course (HIC1000)

30 credits

Foundation is a core element of level one history. It helps you to understand the fundamental requirements of being a historian. We base it primarily on practical experience and the development of key historical skills. There are three main elements to Foundation. First there is ‘Making History’, delivered in semester one, which develops your research, writing and group-work skills based on a concrete historical project. In the second semester, ‘Issues and Concepts’ in history, introduces you to thinking conceptually and problematically about how history is written and debated. Finally, there is History and Film, an opportunity to engage analysis of history on film that connects what we study in Foundation directly to your other level one modules.
