College PGR Conference

The College of Humanities holds an annual PGR Student Conference.

The conference is organised by students, with support from the College's Graduate School Office, for the College's research students and academic staff.  It provides an opportunity for students from all departments in the College to be involved in organising the conference, and to present papers based on your research to your fellow students and staff.

Once the dates for the conference are confirmed, our research students are invited to put yourselves forward to be part of the team responsible for planning and organising the conference.  Past roles include:

  • Conference Chair
  • Treasurer
  • Conference Abstract and Call for Papers Officer
  • Keynote Liaison
  • Presenter Support and Preparation Officer
  • Marketing Officer
  • Sponsorship Officer
  • Catering Officer

This is an invaluable opportunity to organise a conference, or practice your presentation skills and to discuss your work, which is an essential part in training you for an academic career, in the comfort of your own academic community.  It also provides students not intending to go on to a career in academia with essential and transferrable organisational and communication skills.

Being involved in organising this event will also make an excellent addition to your CV.

Students looking to present papers will be fully supported by their supervisors, who will provide you with guidance on preparing a paper and tips on presentation style and timekeeping, for example.

As part of the conference there is also a chance to socialise at the conference dinner.
