Research and Doctoral programmes

Academic entry requirements

The standard entry requirements for our Research and Doctoral programmes are at least a Merit at Masters level, or international equivalent, in a subject related to the degree you are applying to.

It is normally expected that the applicant will also hold a 2:1 Honours degree, or international equivalent, in a subject related to the degree you are applying to, particularly if you are intending to apply for funding.

If you are an international student, please visit our international equivalency pages to enable you to see if your existing academic qualifications meet our entry requirements.

Applicants with relevant work or other experience may also be considered.  Please ensure you include as much detail as possible either in your personal statement, or upload a copy of your CV, to the relevant section of the online application form, which can be accessed from the programme information page.

Applicants may also be asked for additional samples of written work post-application, to assist with the decision-making process, particularly if you are an applicant with a non-standard background.  You may also be invited to attend an interview.

Please note that for Research and Doctoral applications, the availability of suitable supervision and the submission of a good, well written and presented research proposal are also essential.

English language proficiency requirements

Applicants whose native language is not English will also need to satisfy our English language requirements.  Please see our English language requirements pages for details.
