Research interests

Yan spent three years for her PhD studies  in  the University of Exeter and her PhD research is the first longitudinal study of Chinese women entrepreneurs ever conducted which focused specifically on the Chinese government economic reform periods over three decades since 1978. Chinese women entrepreneurs were investigated for an in-depth interview, using narrative approaches, in a qualitative research methodology. She analysed and found how Chinese tranditional culture, Communism government policy and massive domestic market demand influenced Chinese women’s entrepreneurial identity and motivation.

 Yan is interested in gender, marriage, work-family conflicts, entrepreneurship, ethnic and cultural orientation. Also, she is interested in qualitative methodology research, including oral histories, narratives, storytelling, thematic , content analysis and  discourse analysis.
