Introduction to Catalan Language and Culture (MLS2063)

30 credits

Did you know that Barcelona is the capital of a language of 10 million speakers? This module offers students the possibility to become a basic user of Catalan language and to explore a rich and modern European culture that not only preserves impressive popular traditions such as Castellers– declared as world heritage by UNESCO – but also sets international trends in contemporary arts, design, architecture, sports, gastronomy and the performing arts. The module is primarily designed for students willing to spend their year abroad in a Catalan-speaking area (including Valencia or the Balearic Islands), but it also for those who are curious about multilingual societies and language cohabitation.
