Evening language courses

Our evening classes are open to University Students, Staff, Alumni (for a discount) and members of the public. In line with current University policy, we can only accept enrolments for those aged 18 or over in the academic year.

We offer language classes from Beginners to Advanced level. To help you find the right course we have a guide for choosing the correct level of language study

Course options

Academic Year 2020/21

The first ten weeks will be from Week commencing 5 October - 7 December 2020.

The second ten weeks will be from Week commencing 11 January - 15 March 2021.

Each course takes place on one evening, Monday-Thursday, and is taught for 20 weeks over two terms (except 'Introduction to...' ,"Italian short stories" and "German through culture" courses)

Beginners, Post-Beginners, Intermediate, Upper-Intermediate and Advanced: 2-hour session per week, 6.30-8.30pm, for 20 weeks over 2 terms (40 hours total). 

Some Beginners courses and exam preparation courses are run in Term 2 only and consist of a 2 hour session per week for 10 weeks (20 hours in total).

'Introduction to ...' Part 1: 2-hour session per week, 6.30-8.30pm, for 10 weeks in Term 1 or Term 2 (20 hours total). 

'Introduction to ...' Part 2': 2-hour session per week, 6.30-8.30pm, for 10 weeks in Term 2 (20 hours total). 

Italian short stories/ German through culture: 1 hour session per week, 6:30-7:30pm, for 1 weeks in Term 1 (10 hours total).

Please note that all courses are subject to registration and adequate numbers. Times and days may change from the published timetable. The Foreign Language Centre reserves the right to cancel classes at the start of term or at the latest in the first week of term if the minimum number of students required is not reached. If a course is cancelled or withdrawn by the university, course fees will be refunded in full.

Please note subject to demand a term 3 course extension will be offered in all languages except BSL.

 

Ten Weeks commencing 5 October - 7 December 2020

The Foreign Language Centre reserves the right to cancel classes at the start of term or at the latest in the first week of term if the minimum number of students required is not reached. If a course is cancelled or withdrawn by the university, course fees will be refunded in full.

Ten Weeks commencing 11 January - 15 March 2021

DELF/DALF, DELE exam preparation courses will start and finish one week later. These will be confirmed in due course and are also ten weeks.

Term 3 online extension courses (if available)

Ten weeks commencing 3rd May - w/c 5th July 2021. Please note: As there are two Monday Bank Holidays in May if your class has been scheduled on a Monday night then these classes will be rescheduled onto alternative nights by mutual arrangement.
