Internationale Fimfestspiele Berlin

Golden Bear: The MA includes a trip to the Berlin International Film Festival.

The MA covers international film financing, production, economics and distribution in depth.

Programme structure

The MA International Film Business is offered as a one-year programme taught at both the University of Exeter's Streatham Campus and at the London Film School.

The programme includes a group expedition to a major European Film Festival: the Berlinale. In term 1 you will attend sessions organised by both the Film department and the Business School. While working on your dissertation project in term 3, you will benefit from an industry mentor who will meet with you regularly to discuss your work, your professional ambitions and the development of your plan for a final project.

Term 1: University of Exeter

The first term is taught at the University of Exeter by leading film and business academics, where you will have access to world-class university resources and facilities (including the globally renowned Bill Douglas Cinema Museum). You will undertake a global survey of international film production, distribution and exhibition strategies and trends, and study business strategy, accounting and finance, intellectual property and entertainment economics.

Terms 2 & 3: London Film School

Terms two and three are taught by expert tutors and practitioners at the renowned London Film School in Covent Garden. You’ll study the entertainment value chain through seminars delivered by school staff and industry professionals, and a further series of intensive full-day seminars exploring film business innovation will lead into a final project, guided by staff and your industry mentor. This individual or group-based project will reflect the practical application of independent filmmaking, delivery or curating, based on elements studied in previous modules.

LFS can put you in contact with accommodation agencies and also help to broker introductions to current students looking for sharers. For more information email Becky Shaw:

Berlin International Film Festival field trip

Students take a field trip to the Berlinale (Berlin Film Festival, Germany) in the second term. The Berlinale takes place in February and is one of the world's oldest and most important international film festivals. About 400 films from all around the world are screened each year at the festival, most of which are international or European premieres.

As well as the excitement of premieres and the films in competition, the Berlinale is an important place for film industry executives to do business. The Berlinale hosts both the European Film Market and the International co-production market, where around 400 companies are represented. The festival also organises a variety of workshops, panel discussions and film programmes. As accredited visitors to the festival, students on the MAIFB will be able to take advantage of many of these events.

Expenses for accommodation, flights, travel and accreditation are included as part of the cost of the MA for each student. You will, however, be expected to cover any other additional costs associated with your trip to the festival.
