MA Film Studies

Taught by highly qualified and experienced academic staff, the MA in Film Studies offers the chance to gain advanced knowledge of key approaches to film through the study of core modules, combined with the flexibility to pursue individual interests across a diverse range of option module. These option modules include a vocational training module with a work placement in arts administration, working in a film archive or museum, festival organisation, film programming or a similar role.

As a student on the MA Film Studies, you will benefit from highly qualified and experienced academic staff with a commitment to research-led teaching. A vibrant programme of speakers, hosted by the Centre for Interdisciplinary Film Research, will give you the opportunity to hear first hand the latest industry thinking. You will also be able to take advantage of the unique resources contained within the Bill Douglas Centre for the history of Film and Popular Culture, which is located at the University of Exeter.

The MA programme involves the completion of modules to the value of 120 credits including two core modules (Film Methodologies I: Style and Image and Film Methodologies II: History, Criticism and Theory); two optional modules; and complete a dissertation worth 60 credits, working closely with with staff on your own research.

On completion of the programme you will have gained a strong methodological grounding in research and a fluency in a variety of theoretical and historical approaches to cinema.
