BA Geography and English

Field work

Field work is an important component of our Geography degrees and you’ll participate in a number of field courses throughout your degree.

In Year 1, local field trips will provide an introduction to physical and human aspects of the local region. Cornwall is a natural laboratory with an incredible diversity of cultural, ecological and physical landscapes. The region has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a high densitry of conservation areas and Sites of Specical Scientific Interest (SSSI). It has been recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) containing some of Britain's finest coastal scenery, including Land's End and the Lizard peninsula, and provides a perfect setting for geographical exploration.

In Year 2, you’ll go on a residential field course (normally one week’s duration) where you’ll have the opportunity to apply your research and practical skills. In recent years field class destinations of our Geography undergraduates have included Austria, Canada, Iceland, Ireland, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, the USA and the UK.
