MPhil/PhD funding

Funding in English

In addition to any awards listed on this page, we also encourage you to visit our Funding website which includes a search facility to enable you to identify other awards for which you may be eligible.

Our PhD English students receive a range of other financial support, including a research allowance, and the opportunity to apply for research small grants to support conference activity.

We also aim to provide opportunities for professional development and paid work in research and teaching for our PhD students. The Department of English Teaching Assistant Programme offers up to 12 places each year on a structured programme of training and professional practice, with paid, part-time teaching in the second year of the programme. Application forms for the TA Programme are sent in August each year to those who have accepted offers on the PhD programme.

The Department of English Research Assistant Programme offers a number of opportunities for paid assistance on research projects led by members of academic staff. These are advertised as they become available during each year and are only available to PhD students already registered.

If you have any queries in relation to funding, please contact the College Postgraduate Admissions Team.
